A mysterious ailment is running wild throughout the globe subsuming all in its path, and yet it’s nearly unknown. This ailment is multiplying so quickly that it threatens to destroy the entire human race. Yet, there’s no mention of it anywhere. In fact, only a fragment of the global population is aware of this menace.
Who is this mysterious enemy? It is ignorance of the most fundamental natural laws, the most basic of which is the law of cause and effect. Some cultures have referred to it as karma, but it is simpler to recognize as cause and effect.
Believe in humanity
What does this mean for you and why is the ignorance of this law causing so much trouble? Basically, there is no awareness of the repercussions of your actions. If a person had any idea of the grief they would incur if they behaved greedily, selfishly or with disregard for other’s welfare, they’d never behave that way. There’d be little to no negativity in the world. There would certainly be no wars, no poverty, and no banking fraud. There’d be no ozone layer in decline, no oil spills, and no clear-cutting of forests (the lungs of the earth).
Idealistic or altruistic
You might say this sounds like idealistic wishful thinking. But, if a person or group simply had the awareness that by causing sorrow they’d at some point in time reap the equal or worse, that they’d directly experience (without any control to change it) the same pain or more acute pain, they’d shudder and run (not walk) in the opposite direction. For no human being would knowingly cause himself grief or harm.
To make this mysterious ailment of ignorance more acute, the cosmic veil hides it from us. That is, without applying our intelligence, practicing a spiritual discipline to clear our minds of the negative traits of ego, lust, greed, jealousy and desire (selfish), we will not notice this natural law of cause and effect. We’ll be influenced by those subtle foes without recognizing their power.
Contentment comes from truth
You may feel relieved to know, however, that once you recognize the natural law of cause and effect, even if you forget it in your day-to-day life, because you have recognized it once, you will again. If you practice this simple teaching, soon the law of cause and effect will never escape you, and you’ll find yourself behaving with more love, compassion and hope. You’ll achieve an inner feeling of peace and happiness that will be so potent, you’ll hold it with a firm grip despite any circumstances that the world may throw at your feet. You’ll attain a living truth in your life.
